FRiES (Fernbrook Reading Is Essential Schoolwide) is a program that takes place every year to promote reading in a fun, team-oriented environment. Each week your child will track the minutes they read at home (not including homework) and fill out an online form so minutes for each classroom can be tabulated.
Weekly updates are given to announce the classroom in each grade that has reached their grade reading goal to win a prize.
The FRiES Reading Program runs from Friday, January 30, 2026 to Thursday, February 26, 2026 (4 weeks)
Week #1 Information:
Friday, January 30, 2026 - Thursday, February 5, 2026
Form Opens Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 7:00 AM
Form Closes Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM
During this week, students that reach their grade reading goal will win a prize:
Kindergarten: 125 Minutes
First & Second Grade: 150 Minutes
Third, Fourth & Fifth Grade: 200 Minutes
Weekly Challenge: Read a book with a grown-up and alternate pages
Week #2 Information:
Friday, February 6, 2026 - Thursday, February 12, 2026
Form Opens Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 7:00 AM
Form Closes Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11:59 PM
During this week, students that reach their grade reading goal will win a prize:
Kindergarten: 125 Minutes
First & Second Grade: 150 Minutes
Third, Fourth & Fifth Grade: 200 Minutes
Weekly Challenge: Read a book to a pet or stuffed animal
Week #3 Information:
Friday, February 13, 2026 - Thursday, February 19, 2026
Form Opens Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 7:00 AM
Form Closes Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:59 PM
During this week, students that reach their grade reading goal will win a prize:
Kindergarten: 125 Minutes

Weekly Challenge: Read a book in the dark with a flashlight
Week #4 Information:
Friday, February 20, 2026 - Thursday, February 26, 2026

Form Closes Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM
During this week, the classroom for each grade that read the most minutes over the 4 weeks win a prize
Weekly Challenge: Read a book in your favorite reading spot
More Information About FRiES:
Each week a student completes the reading challenge they will get a chance in the drawing at the end of the FRIES Reading program. One winner will be selected per grade for a Scholastic Gift Card that can be redeemed at the Spring Fernbrook Scholastic Book Fair
The class with the most minutes read (for each grade) will win a Reading Trophy
Save the Date: our FRiES Movie Night Celebration is scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2026. Only those families that submit a FRiES Minutes Submission Form (at least one week out of the four) will be invited to attend and celebrate their reading participation.
